This time, I will tell you about my last weekend, rather with the help of pictures than with words – a “photo story” if you want :-)
Am Freitagabend kam Anton hier in Oxford an und wir haben das erste formale Dinner in der schönen großen “hall” (Essenssaal) meines Colleges genossen. Gutes Essen, gute Atmosphäre und liebe Leute. Auf dem Bild seht ihr neben Anton und mir noch Jessica, eine meiner besten Freundinnen hier am College. Sie ist aus Amerika und auch Christ.
On Friday, Anton arrived here in Oxford and we enjoyed our first formal dinner in the beautiful hall of my College. Good food, a great atmosphere, and really nice people. On the picture you see not only Anton and me, but also one of my best friends here at my College, Jessica. She is from the US and also a Christian!
Samstag war der Tag der großen "Matriculation". Das ist der Ausdruck für den formalen Prozess des "In-Die-Uni-Aufgenommen-Werdens".
On Saturday, I had to go the the Matriculation ceremony. This is the formal process of becoming an official member of the university.
Es gibt sehr strenge Kleidervorschriften, von den schwarzen Socken bis zur schwarzen Krawatte und dem komischen Hut, den man aber nur mittragen muss und nicht aufsetzten darf…
There are a lot of rules about what to wear, from the black socks to the black tie and the mortar board that we have to carry around but must not wear…
Früh morgens haben sich alle neuen Studierende („freshers“) unseres Colleges um 8:30 im Hof getroffen, wo erstmal laut alle Namen ausgerufen wurden, so dass kontrolliert werden konnte, dass keiner fehlt.
Early in the morning at 8:30 am, all freshers of our college had to show up in the old buildings quadrangle and all names were shouted out to assure that everyone was there.
Auch wenn viele noch vom vorigen Abend müde waren, hatten wir viel Spaß und beschäftigten uns mit Photos schießen :-) Hier seht ihr die beiden „Lisas“, die mit mir auf einem Flur wohnen uns somit die Küche mit mir teilen.
Even if many of us were still a little tired from the evening before, we had a lot of fun and were busy taking pictures :-) On this picture you see two “Lisas”, they both live on my floor and we share the kitchen.
Und dann ging’s los… vom College hin zum Sheldonian Theatre, wo die offizielle Zeremonie statt fand… Zunächst einmal aber ordentlich in Reihen aufstellen bevor man eingelassen wurde :-) Durch das Tor zum Theatre wurden jedoch Eltern oder persönliche Photographen (Anton) leider nicht durchgelassen. Deswegen gibt’s leider keine Photos von der eigentlichen Zeremonie. Das Gebäude ist natürlich sehr sehenswert und atemberaubend, aber die Zeremonie selber bestand wirklich nur aus ein paar Sätzen, und diese zum Teil noch auf Lateinisch. Schon witzig!
And then it started… We headed off from our College to the Sheldonian Theatre where the actual ceremony took place. Of course we had to stand very nicely ordered in rows before being able to enter the theatre. Unfortunately, parents or personal photographers (Anton) weren’t allowed to go through the gate you can see on the picture. Therefore, I can’t show you photos from the actual ceremony. The building is of course worth seeing and very stunning, but the ceremony itself consisted of a few sentences, partly even in Latin… Very funny!
Schon wieder fertig, da bin ich wieder :-)

Und jetzt hieß es: Zurück zum College, das jährliche Gruppenphoto und Einzelphotos standen an.
And then, everyone headed back to College – the annual group picture had to be taken, as well as individual photographs.
Für das Photo: Erstmal nach Größe aufstellen – gar nicht diskriminierend oder so :-) Aber das muss ja alles seine Ordnung haben. Und dann: Der Rest erklärt sich von selbst…
For the picture "please arrange according to size" – not at all discriminating :-) But of course, everything had to be ordered and nicely arranged. For the rest: Just have a look at the pictures, they're selfexplaining ...
Jetzt bin ich eine offizieller Oxford-Studentin!
Ich sage danke an den super-Photographen und hoffe, ihr habt einen Eindruck von meinem „Studium“ im verrückten wunderschönen Oxford :-) Der Rest des Wochenendes war auch sehr schön. Anton die Stadt zeigen, spazieren gehen, unterhalten, gemeinsam in den Gottesdienst gehen, brunchen…

Now, I’m officially matriculated at Oxford!
I want to say thanks to the great photogapher and I hope you all got some impression about my “studies” here in the beautiful but crazy place Oxford :-) The rest of my weekend was also really nice. I showed the city to Anton, we took a walk, had time to talk, went to church together, had a nice brunch…
